What a week! I feel like that Hulu commercial Alec Baldwin stars in where the guy's brain is turning soft. And I'd like to credit it all to the great entertainment I've been taking in, but I'm not that lucky. Just so much going on! But, I've still got some Pop Culture love to share. It's all about priorities, right? This is going to be a light version, but I'll post some leftover dish on Monday.

Jude's Thursday Dish
1. So excited for the Oscars! I'd post my predictions, but John and I host this annual Oscar party with his side of the family. The person who gets the most predictions right wins a good prize, so I'm not about to tip my hand here. I know the awards show won't have a lot of surprises since "Slumdog Millionaire" is on a winning rampage everywhere else, but it'll still be fun. And I'm SO excited to have cable, so I can watch all the red carpet stuff on something OTHER than the lame ABC pre-show.
2. Nothing says mother/daughter bonding like reality TV. I'm sure parenting experts would have a field day with that, but at least we're watching two (fairly) harmless shows. "The Amazing Race" started on Sunday. I'm already smitten. They have new graphics, more gorgeous scenery, less time in the airports and started with an awesome (and comical) challenge of people trying to get these 50 lb. cheese wheels down a hill in Switzerland. There's a writer/actor on it with his dad -- he wrote "School of Rock" and "Chuck and Buck"; he's the kind of character actor that if you see, you recognize, but you have no idea who he is. I'm rooting for them and Katie's loving the deaf son and his mom.
3. We're watching "American Idol" now too. Well, kind of. This week it was on for 3 hours! Hello? That's insane. So, we fastforward...a lot. I'm not liking how the producers are pushing Danny Gokey down our throats. He's not that great. And they are milking his backstory. It's really unfair for someone like Ricky Braddy, who didn't get ANY screen time, to get booted off. Who would've thought that Paula would make that astute observation? I'm sad he's gone and Anoop Dawg. Can anyone fill me in on the Wild Card round? I don't think I've ever seen that part before, so I'm confused. Is there hope for these two?
4. There was this Weekend Update skit on SNL Saturday that struck too close to home for me. The execution was awful with a twitchy, awkward performance by one of the new girls, but the script was right on. It was the b----pleez.com one about the celebrity blogger. I felt like it was written for me. Especially about the part where the girl didn't know who the president was or where North America is, but can rattle of the name of random TV actors. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but it's sad to say, a little bit true. John was mentioning some big politician the other day and I had no clue who he was. But I recognized the name and writer/actor competing on the "Amazing Race" in a second. What should I think about this?
And now, LOSTapolooza!
GO AWAY if you haven't seen last night's episode!
Aaaaah! Another BRILLIANT episode last night. It was like the Pilot episode for a whole new chapter. Just as we were getting some answers (the island IS moving through space and time and that's why in creepy Mrs. Hawking's words they were never rescued, Locke committed suicide, etc.), we had a whole bunch of new questions come up! It was AWESOME! They're getting on the plane and we're wondering about their pasts again. How did Hurley find out about the flight from jail? What convinced him to go? Why does he have Charlie's guitar? (I think it's the case, but he has it filled with junk food! I wouldn't go back to that island knowing I would starve again). What convinced Sun to go back? Did Benry ever show her his proof (more than the ring, I mean)? Did she go say goodbye to her daughter? How awful is that! And I LOVED seeing Sayid in handcuffs taken on the plane. I got the impression he had NO idea he was supposed to be on that plane, but it was just crazy fate that he was captured and taken there. He looked surprised to see everyone. And then we have Kate. How disturbing. What happened to Aaron? She didn't seem all Kate-like determined to get back to the Island to SAVE him. She was in despair. Is she returning to get him back or does she think she's lost him for good?
I loved the throwback to the beginning of the series with Jack laying on his back and his eyes opening, but this time, he seemed relieved to be on the Island, not terrified like before. When he started making orders to Hurley and Kate, he was back to his old self. I really enjoyed his "conversion" during the episode as he FINALLY starts to have faith. But how freaky was it to see Benry praying -- or as John said -- even in a church? And his knowledge about Thomas and the Savior? That man is so twisted. He even lies about the most simple things like his mom taught him to read. His mom died in childbirth, you sick liar!
Desmond lashing out at Mrs. Hawking was the most realistic thing about the episode. I've been waiting for someone to freak-out about being pawns in this crazy game. Leave it to my favorite Scot to bring in some reality. But oh, I am SOOOO worried. It's SO obvious that Benry's errand for a friend was to live up to his promise to Whidmore to go kill Penny. Did he succeed? When he was at the marina(! -- Penny and Des' boat?!), he looked really defeated. I'm hoping Des just kicked his a-- and Penny is still alive. Being devil's advocate though, I can see Benry succeeding and that being the only way Des will go back to the island. To avenge her death. I HOPE not. Des and Penny's relationship is at the heart of the show. And baby Charlie shouldn't be left behind like poor Ji Yeon.
I don't know much about CS Lewis' "The Chronicles of Narnia", but I've read that it was a big inspiration for the show. I guess when Lucy comes into Narnia it's marked by the Lampost which is the passage between one world to the other.
I would've been SO tickled to see Frank Lapidus as the pilot if the stupid producers hadn't put Jeff Fahey in the credits. This is one of my BIGGEST complaints about this show. Why don't they take a clue from movies, since really -- Lost is just like one long movie -- and credit the peeps at the end. This happens all the time. They put Michael's name in several credits before he even showed up and even though I had heard a spoiler he was coming back, John hadn't. When he kept seeing his name, he knew that Michael was Benry's spy on the boat. This last cameo with Ana Lucia wasn't a surprise, because they credited her. STUPID! I guess I just need to stop reading the credits, right?
Did they just land the plane? Remember when Kate and Sawyer were forced to do manual labor back in season 3 and I want to say I recall someone saying they were building an airplane ramp. Or maybe they crashed again. Didn't they find a make-shift camp during the time travelling and Sawyer picked up a bottle from Ajiri Airlines? I'll have to rewatch that episode or search online for some answers to that theory.
John got all worked up that Kate and Jack got it on. He's totally into Kate and Sawyer. I am too. I definitely think they'll end up together, but it makes sense that after 3 years, she and Jack would still be having an on/off again relationship. They have a huge connection. Plus, it was just grieving sex. From Kate's body language the day after, she doesn't seem to have romance on her mind at all. Poor girl is a mess!
I could go on and on, but finally, JIN! Aaah! That was a great reveal. Especially because Jack, Kate and Hurley thought he was dead. Well, Benry said he wasn't, but like that means anything. Is Jin in the 70's? He must be. I'm wondering if he and Sawyer got separated from the group and are now part of the Dharma Initiative. Or are all of them there? That's mind blowing.
COMING UP:
All the info on the Jeremy Bentham/Locke stuff. The title is "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham." Locke and his legs! Seriously. He got shot by Ethan, his legs were crushed in the hatch, he fell when he was trying to get up to Yemi's plane, when he fell off the rope he broke his legs. Am I forgetting any? In the previews, he's got a foot cast and looks like he's going to be run over. Dude, get the message already.
Well, that's it for this week!

I don't watch Lost so I usually use scroll down your info, but the jeremy Bentham tag caught my eye. Are they really talking about the creepy Jeremy Bentham body that gets rolled into the University College of London's council meetings? Ryan got to see his auto-icon (aka body) when he went over there a couple years ago. If they're really including him in a story line, I may have to watch. Let me know.
Wow, my head is SPINNING! I have one major question, when did Benry tell Widmore that he would kill Penny? I don't remember that at all. We love lost but sometimes I am so confused. Thanks for helping me get straightened out!
Deidra, there was the episode "The Shape of Things To Come" right after Benry got shot back into the real world where he went to visit Whidmore. Benry told him that because Whidmore "killed" Alex then he would pay him back by killing HIS daughter, Penny. That always stresses me out because I want Penny to live!
Aim - I think the Jeremy Bentham thing is supposed to be a play on that guy, because Locke (aka Jeremy Bentham) dies and they've been rolling his coffin around. So it's not about the exact guy, just a nod to it!
Your blog makes me feel like I should watch Lost. Yet I never get around to it. I need to start from the beginning. As for American Idol, the wild card round is new this year. They have never done the eliminations this way to get to the top 12. Its weird getting rid of 9 people on one night, and I'm not sure I like it. But I kinda like Danny Gokey, although enough about his wife.
So Kate did the right thing and gave Aaron to his grandma right? Why the heck does Jack not ask about what the heck she did with his nephew?!? Why does Sun's baby never come into play with the decision she makes- no looking back for her- she just abandons it?
And I NEVER though about Benry's calling from the Marina and the promise in last season. You see, this is what toddlers do to you- your brain is in constant feeding, changing, entertaining motion that you have not time to speculate on LOST! Darn kid! :)
I can't believe you watch the credits- again, a thought that has never made its way through my pee brain!
Amazing Race- yes, I am glad they have changed things up a bit. I am always afraid that it is not going to make it back for the next season. It is such a fun, great show. I am cheering for the deaf son and mom but I don't think they will win. However, I was happy the power couple lost first. None of the stupid couple drama.
Andy came home tonight and told me about the buzz of Ben killing Penny. I so hope not!!!! That is the one feel-good relationship of the whole show. I really do hope something went awry and Desmond was the one that kick the crap out of Ben.
Don't you love Mel and Mike? I was so happy they got 2nd last night. That Mel just makes me smile. I am bummed Linda and Steve are gone because they were SO entertaining.
