Jude's Thursday Dish - Golden Globe Edition

Man, I'm in a blog rut. I didn't realize how much I'd neglected it until today. I'd make that my New Year's Resolution to give it a little more TLC, but I have WAY too many I'm working on. I'm sure it'll turn around...

1-5: Awards Season! As I've commented before, this is a BIG deal to me. But, it's lost it's luster for me over the years for other reasons I've mentioned before: this stupid "dark" movie trend that I hate and I'm off-the-R's (which I'd like to say is wonderful, but let's be honest... it pretty much sucks. Still I'm proud of myself for sticking with it for so long. Unfortunately, I'm always one good movie away from falling off the wagon.) This is all very repetitive, isn't it? Sigh -- you've heard this before. See, I am in a rut.

So, there was the LAME People's Choice awards which I don't even bother to watch, because the winners have all been contacted beforehand and they are the only famous peeps that show up. This Sunday is probably my favorite Awards show, because they include TV. THE GOLDEN GLOBES!!! I love it also because so many stars show up, they get a little tipsy because they can eat AND drink, and for some unknown reason, Jack Nicholson is ALWAYS there in the front with his sunglasses. So thankfully we won't have the suckfest from last year with all those Entertainment Reporters announcing the winners. Gag. I felt like a LOT of good shows got snubbed, but drum roll (since I know you all REALLY care about my opinion), here are my picks for winners in the most interesting categories on Sunday Night. *** Note: a lot of these choices are uninformed, but who really cares?

Best Motion Picture - Drama
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button - haven't seen it yet, going on Saturday.
Frost/Nixon - I heard it's very good.
The Reader - Looks way depressing.
Revolutionary Road - Also looks way depressing, but it has the Kate/Leo reunion!
Slumdog Millionaire - Seems like the best one to me in the bunch. I read about it and it is WAY too violent for me, but it's supposed to be fantastic.

Jude's Pick: Slumdog Millionaire, with maybe a Benjamin Button upset.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama
Anne Hathaway – Rachel Getting Married
Angelina Jolie – Changeling
Meryl Streep – Doubt
Kristin Scott Thomas – I've Loved You So Long
Kate Winslet – Revolutionary Road

Jude's Pick: Anne Hathaway, fortunately everybody voted before Bride Wars came out.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama
Leonardo DiCaprio – Revolutionary Road
Frank Langella – Frost/Nixon
Sean Penn – Milk
Brad Pitt – The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
Mickey Rourke – The Wrestler

Jude's Pick: Sean Penn can do no wrong in Hollywood. Plus that movie is timely with gay marriage, so he's a shoe-in. I HATE Mickey Rourke and if he wins, I'm turning off my TV.

Best Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy
Burn After Reading - didn't see it, but my friend told me it's hilarious.
Happy-Go-Lucky - I don't even know what this film is?
In Bruges - another movie that I heard is great.
Mamma Mia! - too cheesy, won't win
Vicky Cristina Barcelona - Woody Allen and it's supposed to be good.

Jude's Pick: See, I really haven't seen anything this year. Just credentials to back it up, I'd say the Coen Brother's Burn After Reading or pervyWoody's movie will win.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy
Rebecca Hall – Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Sally Hawkins – Happy-Go-Lucky
Frances McDormand – Burn After Reading
Meryl Streep – Mamma Mia!
Emma Thompson – Last Chance Harvey

Jude's Pick: Frances McDormand, definitely.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy
Javier Bardem – Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Colin Farrell – In Bruges
James Franco – Pineapple Express
Brendan Gleeson – In Bruges
Dustin Hoffman – Last Chance Harvey

Jude's Pick: I just want James Franco to win from his days in "Freaks and Geeks".

Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Amy Adams – Doubt
Penélope Cruz – Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Viola Davis – Doubt
Marisa Tomei – The Wrestler
Kate Winslet – The Reader

Jude's Pick: Always a difficult category. I think it's between Marisa Tomei and Kate Winslet. I guess Marisa gets all naked in that movie, so you know how the Hollywood Foreign press likes that! Kate is always naked, so that's no big draw.

Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Tom Cruise – Tropic Thunder
Robert Downey Jr. – Tropic Thunder
Ralph Fiennes – The Duchess
Philip Seymour Hoffman – Doubt
Heath Ledger – The Dark Knight

Jude's Pick: Even MORE difficult category. I think if Heath Ledger wasn't up, it would be a tight race between Philip See More Hoffman or RBD Jr. But, Heath has got to take this...right?

ON TO MY FAVORITE....TV!!!!!

Best Television Series - Drama
Dexter - since I don't have cable and it falls into my "too violent" category, I haven't seen it. But all my friends who have love it.
House - I'm completely in the minority, but I hate House.
In Treatment - haven't seen, nor care to. Who wants to watch people in therapy? I can live that.
Mad Men - this is the next series John and I are starting. Can't wait!
True Blood - what is this show? That stupid vampire one? GAG!

Jude's Pick: Write in - LOST! Season 4 was phenomenal. It should've been nominated over that dumb True Blood. But, my vote will go with Mad Men.

Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series - Drama
Sally Field – Brothers & Sisters
Mariska Hargitay – Law & Order
January Jones – Mad Men
Anna Paquin – True Blood
Kyra Sedgwick – The Closer

Jude's Pick: Yawn! Please, no more love for Sally Field. I can't stand her acceptance speeches. I'm going to vote for January Jones, because she's someone new!

Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series - Drama
Gabriel Byrne – In Treatment
Michael C. Hall – Dexter
Jon Hamm – Mad Men
Hugh Laurie – House
Jonathan Rhys Meyers – The Tudors

Jude's Pick: Jon Hamm. He's hot! And he's guesting on "30 Rock" as a potential Liz Lemon lover. Do you like how I've decided to love "Mad Men" before even watching it?

Best Television Series - Musical Or Comedy
30 Rock - don't you know me at all by now? I can't profess my love enough.
Californication - EW! And David Dickovny -- triple EW!
Entourage - this show is smarmy...and overrated.
The Office - LOVE this show. My 2nd fav behind 30 Rock.
Weeds - another smarmy show and I HATE Mary-Louise Parker.

Jude's Pick: I'll be happy with either 30 Rock or The Office winning, but I think 30 Rock still needs the love more to keep it on the air.

Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series - Musical Or Comedy
Christina Applegate – Samantha Who?
America Ferrera – Ugly Betty
Tina Fey – 30 Rock
Debra Messing – The Starter Wife
Mary-Louise Parker – Weeds

Jude's Pick: No brainer since I have a crush on Tina Fey.

Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series - Musical Or Comedy
Alec Baldwin – 30 Rock
Steve Carell – The Office
Kevin Connolly – Entourage
David Duchovny – Californication
Tony Shalhoub – Monk

Jude's Pick: Baldwin is GENIUS on 30 Rock, but the award MUST go to Steve Carrell. We all love all the supporting peeps on that show, but it's really Michael that makes it. He's definitely a star and I heart Carell so very much.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Eileen Atkins – Cranford
Laura Dern – Recount
Melissa George – In Treatment
Rachel Griffiths – Brothers & Sisters
Dianne Wiest – In Treatment

Jude's Pick: Sarah fascinates me on Brothers & Sisters, so I vote for Rachel Griffiths.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Neil Patrick Harris – How I Met Your Mother
Denis Leary – Recount
Jeremy Piven – Entourage
Blair Underwood – In Treatment
Tom Wilkinson – John Adams

Jude's Pick: Please, anyone but Jeremy Piven...again! I think it should go to NPH. I don't watch How I Met Your Mother very often, but when I do catch it, he's great in it!

Well, there you have it. Enjoy Golden Globing this Sunday and we'll see if I was even close on any of these next week.

i skipped all the movie stuff because if i am being honest, before Baby Mama, I hadn't seen a movie in the theater since Napolean Dynamite. Don't hate me forever. BUT the t.v. stuff, at least some, I can relate. I just want to add my love to 30 Rock and the Office. Oh my. How I love those shows.
Dear 30 Rock, I love you with all my heart.
