What a better way to get back into my blog then to write about this historical day. The Inauguration! It's all very exciting. As I've said here before, whatever your political beliefs are, this is a remarkable time. Our first African American president! I like what Tom Hanks said about how at one time, a black man only counted as 1/3 of a vote. And I, like him, want to live in a land where ANYONE can be president.
Here we go!
Wow, nice hat Aretha. Not too many people would dare to try and pull that off.
Their girls are so cute. There is NO way Katie would last 2 minutes at this thing.
Michelle is looking good. I love the green gloves!
There's Senator Bennett. Or President Bennett, as I always seem to call him for some reason. My friend, Rox, has worked for him for years and says he's a really nice guy. But, he totally looks like Mr. Burns from "The Simpsons" though.
And you too, George Sr. Nice hat!
I love how Bill Clinton just sides up next to George W. He's such the schmoozer.
Joe Biden has chicklets for teeth.
Poor President Obama. He looks kinda old. He's probably aged 10 years during this election. I can't EVEN imagine how he must be feeling.
I keep looking for my friends, Leslie and Adam, in the crowd. Like I'm going to see them.
It's really sad how clueless I am about the who's who. I don't even know who most of these peeps are.
And the chanting begins...
Amen, Dianne Feinstein. How blessed we are to have the freedoms we do!
I know I shouldn't criticize how people pray, so I'm not saying anything... And please crowd, don't mug for the camera during a prayer.
I love seeing the shots of people from other countries.
I wish the commentators would shut up. I'm watching ABC because they are the least annoying, but I still wish they didn't feel like they had to fill all the "dead" space.
Yeah. How can you not love Aretha? And the montage of American landmarks. I'm getting all teary. Was that Moab?
Poor Bob Bennett. He only got like one cheer.
And here's Vice President Biden. Pleeeaaasssse do a good job.
Oooh, John Williams arrangement? Yo Yo Ma? Isak (spelling?) Pearlman? Two other peeps I don't know? Cool! Oh good, Michelle looks to be shushing one of the girls. They wiggle too.
Mr. Prrreeessssideeenttt! (in voice of Oprah -- she has been SO annoying about all this, by the way). Cute happy Kenyans! There are a lot of tears in the crowd, but President Obama looks very happy and peaceful.
Is George W. relieved, pissed or just half asleep? If I were him, I'd go to some remote island and sleep for a month.
Very uplifting speech. Especially the part about how a man who less than 60 years ago, this man's father might not be served at a restaurant. And now, he can stand and take this sacred oath. Katie has been learning about Martin Luther King at school and she's just appalled at the treatment of blacks throughout history. I'm so happy I live in a time where my child is completely color blind and she can't even comprehend why this is all so significant. To her, race is never an issue. I wish it was that way for all of us.
I was typing during the poem and the lady's lips were out of sync with the volume which is very annoying, so that was completely lost on me.
Shut up, Charles Gibson. He's praying! Woah, I don't think I've ever heard rhyming in a prayer. The red man can get ahead man? Can you call people red men? Isn't that why some people say the movie "Peter Pan" is racist? :)
Well, there we have it! Speaking of prayer, let's ALL pray for President Obama and ALL our leaders that we'll have brighter days ahead!!!

Haha! This cracked me up. I haven't watched the footage yet that I recorded. Now I can't wait to see Aretha's hat.
Joe Chicle Biden- that's my fave comment on here! I agree with the commentator crap- almost worse than the olympics. On NBC, they would talk over the announcer. I loved George Sr.s purple and yellow neck adorments- am I just clueless that they must be school colors?
Judes, you totally made me spit up dr pepper (nice image, i know) GREAT play by play. And yeah . . .the prayer in verse . . . I've never heard such a thing before. I think our new President did a great job on his speech and made me feel hopeful for the America in which we live.
I love that this is just a running commentary of your thoughts....made my day!
